Our Other Ministries

In addition to the main departmental structures, the Methodist Church Nigeria operates a number of specialized units and ministries that play a crucial role in fulfilling its mission.

Hands & Feet of the Church

Specialized Units Serving the Kingdom

These units often act as the hands and feet of the church, reaching out to specific communities and serving the unique needs of the congregation and society at large. Each ministry below plays a distinct and vital role in the life of the D-Line Diocese.

The House Fellowship

"For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them." โ€” Matthew 18:20

The House Fellowship, also referred to as a house church or home cell group, serves as a vital tool for evangelism and discipleship by providing a relaxed, informal environment for worship and community. These groups are easy to start and can be organized by proximity or by specific demographic groupings, such as children, young adults, or elders.

House Fellowships are designed to be evangelistic tools, providing a non-threatening atmosphere for newcomers to feel comfortable and engaged. The meetings facilitate deep fellowship and spiritual growth, where members can share their struggles and burdens, pray for one another, and study God's Word together.

This format develops unpaid lay leaders through an "Apprentice System," where pastors oversee the training of individuals who are then assigned to lead small groups. The House Fellowship is ultimately a way for the church to extend its ministry into homes, workplaces, and communities, nurturing both new believers and seasoned Christians in a close-knit setting.

Association of Methodist Brigade (AMB)

"We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure." โ€” Hebrews 6:19

The Association of Methodist Brigade (AMB) is an umbrella body for all Boys' Brigade and Girls' Brigade companies within the Methodist Church. It was established with a clear mandate to advance Christ's kingdom among boys and girls and to promote habits of reverence, discipline, self-respect, and Christian manliness.

The mission of the AMB is to deepen members' understanding of the Christian and Methodist faith, encourage them to render services to the church, and help them come to a personal faith in Jesus Christ. The Brigade's programs are designed to provide weekly activities for Sunday School and church members, offering opportunities for physical, mental, and spiritual development in preparation for a life of Christian service.

The organization's motto, "Sure and Steadfast," is a direct reference to the Epistle to the Hebrews, which describes hope as an "anchor of the soul." The AMB has also taken on an international focus, with a mission to spread its activities beyond Africa to Europe, Asia, and the Americas to support the church's global growth.

The Prayer Band

"Pray without ceasing." โ€” 1 Thessalonians 5:17

The Prayer Band functions as the "powerhouse" of the church, with a primary role to pray constantly for the church and its leadership. This ministry is responsible for "lifting the hands" of the pastor in charge, standing in the gap for individuals facing challenges, and ensuring the spiritual fire on the church's altar does not recede.

These prayer groups often meet regularly to pray through a handbook, intercede for church pastoral matters, and offer prayers for healing and spiritual support. The prayer band's activities, including fervent prayer meetings, are considered a key part of the church's strategic plan for revitalizing evangelism and discipleship.

Its members are dedicated individuals with a passion for prayer and a commitment to living a holy and righteous life. The Prayer Ministry provides a safe space for people to pray in community, which is particularly powerful during times of sickness, healing, and crisis.
